Concept Curriculum is a curricular program that prepares students for learning Math, Reading, Language Arts, History, and Science. This is a program designed for all students, but it is particularly effective for students who have difficulty with abstract reasoning. The traditional curriculum leaves the task of creating a coherent structure of concepts in any field to the student – facts and/or processes are presented, and even learned, but the organizing structure of concepts is left to the student. Concept Curriculum reverses this process by presenting the basic system of concepts before the student begins to learn the facts and processes. As a result the learning is much more effective and efficient as well. This same approach works for students who have “progressed” in a given area of the curriculum, but have not really understood it. Most of these students have extreme difficulty as the curriculum builds on what was assumed to be a solid conceptual base. The remedy is not more drill with the facts and processes; the remedy is to provide them with an understanding of the basic concepts. A demonstration disk of the Concept Curriculum is available on the order form.
